Privacy Policy

Commulert GH (“the app,” “we,” “us”) is a community incident-reporting app for Ghana. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and what choices you have.

1. Who We Are

2. Information We Collect

• Full name, phone number, and email address: Collected when you create an account to identify you to other users of your suburb feed and contact you about your account.

• Suburb: Collected when you select or change your suburb to show relevant reports and direct push notifications.

• Precise location (GPS): Collected with your permission when you submit a report to identify the incident location and display it on the map.

• Photos: Collected when you attach photos to reports so other users can see what you are reporting.

• Report content: Includes the category, title, and description of incidents you post.

• Confirmations: Recorded when you confirm another user’s report to show how many people have corroborated it.

• Device push token: Collected automatically through Firebase Cloud Messaging when you allow notifications, to deliver alerts about new reports in your suburb.

• Theme preference: Your light or dark mode preference is stored only on your device and is never sent to us.

We do not collect payment information because the app has no paid features.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Operate the app’s core features, including the suburb feed, incident map, report submission, report confirmations, and emergency contact shortcuts.

• Send push notifications about new reports in your suburb.

• Allow community moderators and administrators to review and remove spam or fake reports and suspend accounts that violate our Terms of Service.

• Respond to support requests.

We do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising.

4. Who We Share Your Information With

We share information with the following services and people where necessary to operate the app:

• Supabase: Hosts account information, authentication services, report data, and file storage.

• Google Firebase: Delivers push notifications and receives your device token and suburb notification topic, but not your name or phone number.

• Google Maps: Displays incident locations and receives the coordinates needed to render the map, subject to Google’s privacy policy.

• Other users in your suburb: Can see your reports, attached photos, and the approximate location associated with your reports. Your name is displayed alongside reports you post, but your phone number and email address are not shown to other users.

• Administrators and moderators: Can access reports and profile information, including names, phone numbers, and email addresses, for moderation purposes.

We do not share your information with advertisers or data brokers.

5. Location Data

Your location is collected only when you actively submit a report and grant permission through your device’s location prompt.

We do not track your location in the background or maintain a location history beyond the coordinates attached to reports you have submitted.

6. Data Retention and Account Deletion

We retain your account and report data for as long as your account remains active.

You can permanently delete your account at any time by going to Profile → Delete account.

Account deletion immediately and permanently removes:

• Your profile.

• Every report you have posted.

• Every confirmation you have given on other users’ reports.

• All photos you have attached to reports.

There is no grace period, deactivation state, or recovery option after deletion. Because your reports are also deleted, they will no longer be visible to other users in your suburb.

7. Your Privacy Rights

Under Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), and generally, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.

• Correct inaccurate information, including your name, phone number, and email address through Profile → Edit.

• Delete your account and associated data through Profile → Delete account.

• Withdraw permission for location or camera access through your device settings. Without these permissions, the app will be unable to attach a location or photo to reports you submit.

8. Children

Commulert GH is not directed at children.

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.

9. Security

We rely on Supabase’s infrastructure for encryption in transit and at rest and use row-level security to restrict access to information.

Except for administrators, users are restricted to reading and writing their own profile and reports within their own suburb, as described in our access controls.

No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date when changes are made, and material changes will be communicated through the app.
